Raising an 8 year old boy By Brandi Yates I love being a mom and raising a boy has been fun. Even though it does not come naturally for me to play with legos or have an interest in video games there are ways for moms to bond with their sons other than playing. He still loves to be tickeled before he goes to bed and homework time can be a great time to get closer. It keeps you on top of what they are doing in school and makes him feel like you are involved in his school even though you are not with him all day. I have friends that chose to homeschool their children but that is not something I feel like my children need. I think its good for me and him to have time apart while he is in school. It gives him a life that he has with his friends and great teachers that all help in his development. He is doing great in school and they are learning things in the second grade that I dont remember learning until I was in the fourth grade. Division in the second grade? Maybe I just dont remember but it seems advanced to me. I really admire his teachers because even though he has had a teacher that was too "strict" they are the reason that he loves school and loves to go. 8 year olds are at the stage where their "hyperness" is going away and they are paying more attention to their manners and how other people feel about things. My son used to be a hyper ball of energy but now he is more laid back but still wrestles with his sisters and knows when he can be loud and when to calm down. I need to remember not to take one day for granted and enjoy my 8 year old.
